A former South Bronx warehouse is reopening as a new film and TV studio.
Neighboring stakeholders are hoping that Silvercup North, a $35 million complex, will drive up business in the neighborhood.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. joined other elected officials for a tour of the new facility Wednesday.
Officials say the facility will help meet the growing needs of a booming TV and film industry in New York, which they attribute to the state's film tax credit program.
Silvercup North contains four production studios and a slew of other useful departments.
Officials estimate it will create 400 well-paying TV jobs and generate new revenue in the Bronx.
But some local business owners say they're worried the studio could hurt them.
Brad Miller, a local carpenter, says his type of carpentry likely won't be useful to the studio, while its presence could drive up rents in the area and make things more expensive for residents.
