Windy, wet weather possible as Hermine lingers offshore

Hermine may have missed New York City, but moderate winds and light rain still lingered throughout the area Tuesday.
The National Weather Service canceled tropical storm watches and warnings in the area, but also warned of wind gusts around 30 mph.
Large waves generated by Hermine continued to create dangerous rip currents along the coast, prompting the city to place swimming off limits at all beaches Tuesday, as it had for Labor Day weekend.
On City Island, strong waves continued to smash against rocks, sending spray high into the air early Tuesday evening. News 12 meteorologists say periods of wind and showers could persist into early Wednesday morning.
Forecasts show a partly cloudy Wednesday with highs around the mid-80s.
