New community center proposed for Tremont Park
A vacant lot that once held Bronx Borough Hall may soon become a new community center in Tremont Park, according to a local officials.
John Sanchez, the district manager of Community Board 6, says it will be both a civic center for residents and a place for young people to play sports.
Other improvements include revamping the park's greenery, adding security cameras and upgrading walkways.
Funding is provided for the plan in the Parks Department's 20-year capital plan for the city.
City Councilman Ritchie Torres praised the plan and said the park is "one of the most historically significant parks in the Bronx."
