Homicide probe opened into child’s 2015 death

Police are opening a homicide investigation this week into the death of an 8-month-old last year.
The investigation comes after the medical examiner found "abusive" head trauma and ruled the death a homicide.
Police responded to a Jefferson Avenue 911 call on Oct. 24, 2015 and found Manson Simms unresponsive and unconscious.
EMS workers took him to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they could not comment on whether they had any suspects. The medical examiner's office also would not elaborate on why it took almost a full year to rule the death a homicide.
