Girl Scouts clean up Co-op City intersection

Girl Scout troops cleaned up a busy intersection Saturday in Co-op City.
About five different Girl Scout troops from the Co-op City area picked up trash left behind on the grass and sidewalks near the intersection of Baychester Avenue and Donizetti Place. The program, Operations Clean Streets, partnered with Councilman Andy King's office and allows the scouts to give back to their community.
"We want to include the young people and keep them working in the neighborhood to keep their neighborhood clean," says Brian Melford, of Operations Cleaner Streets. "When they play they have a good time and it's safer to play in a cleaner neighborhood."
Officials say the program has helped cleanup events in several other areas around the Bronx. They say they choose a different location to tackle every week.
