Dietician offers healthy eating tips for the holidays

Dietician Tonya Hunt spoke with News 12 The Bronx Thursday to offer some tips about how to stay healthy this holiday season.

She says the usual holiday treats that come with end-of-the-year parties are fine, but in moderation.

"If it's something that I can get all year-round, I will usually skip it," says Hunt.

She recommends bringing a healthy dish to a party when the option is available. She says people can change cooking ingredients, such as using evaporated fat-free milk in foods, rather than whole milk.

"If you overeat during the holidays, maybe have something really light the next day like have oatmeal for breakfast," says Hunt.

She says overeating around the holidays can result in an extra 10 to 15 pounds.
