DEC to probe E. 135th St. lot for contamination

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is notifying Port Morris residents of possible contamination in part of the neighborhood.
Neighbors of a vacant lot at 198 E. 135th St., near the Major Deegan Expressway, are receiving notice from the DEC of an investigation into the property. It was most recently used to store vehicles, but had previously been a railroad yard and used to store oil.
The DEC will accept public comment on the investigation until Jan. 22.
The investigation will examine the soil, groundwater and surface water for evidence of contamination.
