Petition demands handicap access at busy subway stop

The South Bronx Community Congress is calling on the MTA to provide handicap access to a busy subway stop in the borough.
During a public hearing on fare hikes, the group presented the MTA with a petition signed by 750 people who want an elevator at 149th Street and the Grand Concourse. They complain that there are three sets of staircases that commuters must climb or descend at the station.
Lincoln Hospital and Hostos Community College are also pushing for an elevator, but there's no word yet on whether the MTA has plans to install one.
