Former BX president jumps parties in mayoral race

Former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. is jumping political parties and eyeing Mayor Michael Bloomberg's seat.
A spokesperson for the politician says that the one-time Democrat has turned Independent and is looking for the Republican nomination in the 2013 race to become New York City mayor.
Carrion had left his post as borough president to serve in President Barack Obama's administration. He then turned to a role with the Department of Housing and Urban Development before starting his own company in January.
No Democrat has won the city's top spot since David Dinkins in 1989.
