Sesame Street star writes High Bridge children's book
With the High Bridge reopening after 40 years, a famous Bronx native has written a book to educate kids about the area.
Sonia Manzano, best known as Maria from "Sesame Street," grew up in the Bronx and says that she didn't even know the High Bridge existed. Manzano says that she wrote the children's book "The Lowdown on the High Bridge" to educate kids about what the High Bridge has to offer.
"I want to enrich the lives of the children who live in the Highbridge area," says Manzano. "If they value their community, they will contribute to their community, and they will become better citizens."
Manzano says that she wants the kids in the Highbridge area to know that there is a place just blocks from their school where they can exercise and even walk to Manhattan.
Manzano read the book to students at P.S. 11 on Ogden Avenue. All the kids went home with a copy of the book.
The book is available to the public next month.
