Longtime business owners get 'surprise' eviction notice

A group of longtime business owners in Parkchester may be forced to close shop at the end of June after they say they got "surprise" eviction notices from the new owners of the property.
Their shops are in a prime spot on a North Bronx intersection. On May 29, they say they received a letter from ZP Realty, LLC terminating their residency in a month. Some of the businesses have been in the location for decades.
"This is a family business," says one store owner. "We have four children, seven grandchildren who need our financial support. You take that away from us, you hurt our families as well."
Shop owners say they are confused as to where to go next, and sad at the idea of having to possibly leave their life's work behind.
"If I was to sell the business, I would cry, and being thrown out is even more devastating," says another owner.
ZP Realty, LLC took over the property in April. It is not clear what the company intends to do at the Parkchester location, but an article in the Real Deal states the realty's group plan is to demolish all 38 shops and 11 offices to construct one big building.
News 12 reached out to representatives from the Pinnacle Group, ZP Realty and Bensen and Associations but has not yet received a response.
Store owners say they have contacted an attorney in an attempt to at least delay the process of eviction.
