Sculpture unveiled in Van Cortlandt Park
A new sculpture was unveiled in Van Cortlandt Park on Thursday to showcase how water flows through the park.
"We started with the idea of fish, waves and water," says Lee Apt, one of the seven artists who sculpted the piece. "We incorporated all of that to this piece which has a fish-like, wave-like appearance."
The artwork is part of a partnership between the Parks Department and the Art Students League of New York called Model to Monument. The design symbolizes movement and endless waves, and took nearly three hours to assemble.
"What I want to do is bring the arts here because it makes people think differently about the landscape," says Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy President Margot Perron.
"Water" will be displayed until May 2016.
