South Bronx Ignites block party kicks off

The second annual South Bronx Ignites block party kicked off Saturday in Mott Haven at the border of the South Bronx and Harlem.

Area merchants and residents turned out to celebrate the up-and-coming neighborhood.

The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation sponsored the event.

Organizers say the event is meant to capture the essence of the thriving community.

The economic development corporation is a nonprofit group established in 1972.
