The Department of Youth and Community Development is providing a more streamlined path for Bronx youth to be ready to enter the workforce.
The Ladders for Leaders Summer Youth Employment Program is a professional internship program for people ages 16 to 21 who want to know what it's like to work in a specialized field.
The specialized fields include everything from communications, marketing, grant writing, research, graphic design and more.
The process to get into the internship is selective and rigorous. The candidates are evaluated based on their academic performances, essays and their resumes.
The aspiring professionals will be working for the Unity Fellowship Breaking Ground, an organization that provides education and supportive services to youth and families in New York City.
