Bronx ice house staying cool during high heat
It can be hard to find a place to stay cool off during this summer scorcher, but there's at least one place in the Bronx that has no trouble.
Employees at Big Eddie's Ice House on Southern Boulevard may have the best job in the borough as temperatures climb into the 90s. Freezers there are at 20 degrees below to keep bags of ice frozen.
During the summer, the ice shop gets more than 700 bags of ice delivered each day, most of which goes to restaurants and commercial businesses.
But if you're not lucky enough to work at Big Eddie's, there are hundreds of cooling centers open to the public citywide to escape the heat, and all public pools have extended hours until 8 p.m.
