WDBJ holds moment of silence for 2 slain journalists
The studios of WDBJ news station in Roanoke, Virginia fell silent at 6:45 a.m. to mark 24 hours since two members of its news team were shot and killed in an on-air ambush by a former employee of the station.
A makeshift memorial continues to grow outside the studio in honor of 24-year-old Alison Parker and 27-year old Adam Ward, who were gunned down on live television Wednesday morning. The woman Parker was interviewing, Vicki Gardner, was also shot, but she is expected to be OK.
Police say the suspect, 41-year-old Vester Lee Flanagan, a former reporter at WDBJ, shot himself hours after the incident and died in the hospital.
Officials say Flanagan, also known as Bryce Williams, legally purchased the gun used in the shooting. He later posted videos of the incident on his Facebook and Twitter pages.
Many have expressed their condolences on social media to the WDBJ family, and the family and friends of the victims, using #WeStandWithWDBJ.
