4 children struck by vehicle in Fordham

Four children and one woman were injured when a car spun out of control and jumped the curbed Wednesday morning in Fordham.
Police say a 2014 black Toyota was traveling southbound on East Kingsbridge Road when the driver lost control and struck the pedestrians. Witnesses tell News 12 the male driver was on his cellphone as he crashed into the crowd.
The incident was captured by a nearby surveillance camera.
Of the injured pedestrians, four were taken to Jacobi Medical Center and one was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.
Police say the four children were all walking to school at the time of the incident. The woman is the mother of two of the children. Two of the victims have since been released from the hospital, while the mother and her children remain in stable condition.
Administrators at the Bronx Community Charter School, which three of the victims attend, say there will be counselors available to help any students struggling to cope with the news while their classmates recover.
The driver, who works for the ride-hailing service Uber, stayed on the scene and is not currently facing any charges. News 12 is told that the Taxi and Limousine Commission has suspended the driver.
