Tree uprooting sidewalk in Parkchester

A tree is uprooting a Parkchester sidewalk, residents say.

Neighbors say dozens of people trip or fall on that part of the sidewalk.

Michael Scorzello says he has complained about the problem to 311 at least 10 times over several years.

The 78-year-old was even issued a violation by the city Department of Transportation, which says it's his responsibility to fix the problem.

Scorzello says the Parks Department should do the work and pay for it because it's their tree.

A representative from the Parks Department says that the agency does repair sidewalks damaged most severely by tree roots. The tree in question is a low priority in that regard.
