Cab driver robbed by knife-wielding passenger

A Bronx cab driver says he was robbed by a knife-wielding passenger Sunday evening.

The assailant reportedly stole cash, an iPhone and the cab itself, but Sueb Ahmed, 44, says he considers himself lucky to still be alive.

Ahmed says the passenger appeared to be in his 30s.

Police recovered the car a few hours later several blocks from the robbery.

Police say several cab drivers have become victims of violence over the past few months.

Fernando Mateo, a representative of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, is calling for a police program to train cabbies on how to respond to such situations.

Mateo is also working with the city to develop silent alarms for cabs that will alert nearby police officers to potential trouble.
