NYPD searches for missing psychiatric patient

The NYPD and a Bronx psychiatric center are searching for a missing patient.

Officials say Mathew Carpenter was escorted outside of the Bronx Psychiatric Center to smoke a cigarette around 3:30 p.m. yesterday. They say the 34-year-old man ran from the Waters Place facility toward the Hutchinson Metro Center and hasn't been seen since.

Police say Carpenter is around 5 feet 8 inches tall, with blonde hair and hazel eyes. When he ran off, he was wearing a light-colored T-shirt and dark green sweatpants.

Officials say Carpenter is a court-ordered psychiatric patient.

Anyone with information on Carpenter is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
