Event gives week’s worth of food to needy families

One Bronx organization is making sure thousands of Bronx families will be receiving a week's worth of food during the Thanksgiving holiday.
Thousands of Bronx residents lined up at the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church today for the Feed the Community event.
The church community donates pounds of turkeys, chickens, cranberry sauce and everything one would need for a warm holiday dinner. Also donated are things like spaghetti, breakfast foods and even toiletries to help get needy people through the next week.
The church leaders say it's important to be in the Thanksgiving spirit not just for one day, but all year round.
"The spirits and moral of people are very low, very down, so we want to help in a small way and this is one of the ways we can do that," says Pastor Frederick Crawford. "We wanted to be able to provide for them not just a meal for the day, but a meal for the week."
