DOT tests temporary City Island bridge set to open Friday

Department of Transportation officials on Wednesday tested the temporary bridge into City Island that drivers are slated to start using later this week.
The bridge includes one lane of traffic in each direction, as well as a lane for emergency vehicles.
Two FDNY trucks drove on the new bridge to test its strength. Officials say the results were satisfactory, but some people have voiced concerns about it. The bridge suffered structural damage in September, and drivers are worried about the turn they must make to get on it.
DOT officials say the temporary bridge will remain until December 2016, when a new permanent bridge will be put in place.
