Challah-baking workshop teaches spiritual meaning

A workshop in Riverdale is teaching women how to bake traditional Challah, as well as the spiritual meaning behind the process.

"Religious things become cultural because we pass them on from generation to generation, but there's always more meaning behind it," says Sarah Shemtov. "At least in the Jewish religion and tradition, there's always more meaning."

Shemtov says baking the bread has a message.

"It actually dates back to biblical commandment that the Jewish people were given before they entered the land of Israel, right after the Exodus from Egypt," she says.
