Convicted killer gets 50 years to life in prison

Raymond Mayrant was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years to life in prison for killing Elzina Brown.
Mayrant was convicted of fatally shooting Brown and injuring her daughter, Diamond Dunn, in January 2013.
Dunn was a former girlfriend of Mayrant's, and the two shared a daughter of their own.
Dunn's sister and aunt addressed the court on their family's behalf.
They told the court that Dunn and Mayrant had broken up months before he entered her home and shot the two victims in what prosecutors described as a calculated attack.
They said they've forgiven Mayrant for the crime, but that their decision to do so did not bring Brown back.
"He killed my mother, who treated him like a son," Laura Dunn said in court. "And he hurt my sister, and...he hurt his own daughter."
Family members say the 7-year-old frequently asks them to explain why her father hurt her mother.
Judge Alvin Yearwood told the court he found not one redeeming quality in Mayrant when he decided on the sentence.
