Bronx salon embraces natural hair care

Some Bronx women are getting back to their roots in more ways than one.
New Beginnings Beauty Salon in Baychester has been promoting the natural hair movement for years. The shop is owned by a Bronx mother and daughter.
"Folks sometimes are terrified of going natural," said owner Pauline Fairclough. "I figured, why not create something where folks can come and get their hair done, just embracing their own natural beauty?"
New Beginnings clients say the natural look amounts to "freedom of expression."
"It shows heritage...This is just who I am," said Katrina Sparks. "I like to be natural and I think I'm beautiful."
The owners want to remind women that everyone's hair is different with unique texture and curls that require various products. They recommend going to a hair professional to find out what exactly will work best.
