Bronx boxing legend Joe DeGuardia dies

Boxing legend and lifelong Morris Park resident Joseph DeGuardia Sr. died Tuesday at age 86.



DeGuardia, who was a former boxer, founded the Morris Park Boxing Club and Better America Through Our Youth. He guided thousands of young fighters.



DeGuardia is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Joseph Jr., who is a boxing promoter, Donald, Eric, and Dean; daughters Lynne, Denise, and Raven; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two sisters. His son Rick Jay died in 2015.



His wake is Friday at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home on Morris Park Avenue from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral is Saturday.
