Male leaders give students hope at Monroe College
Monroe College hosted its seventh annual 'Male Empowerment' event Thursday letting high schoolers pair up with a mentor.
Approximately 400 kids participated in this year's "tying into manhood" event, where they learned about life lessons and how to tie a tie. The goal is to show students that no matter what background they come from, there can be a bright future ahead.
"I think it is awesome to sit down with younger, motivated people and mentor them and guide them in the right direction," mentor Manny Melas said.
Other mentors included a biochemist, professors and judges. Monroe College officials say they hope to get a bigger space next year to include more students.
