Parents opt children out of standardized testing in the Bronx

Some parents are encouraging their kids to opt out of standardized tests in the Bronx.
The president of the PTA and even the school principal, Jamaal Bowman, at Cornerstone Academy in the Bronx say they support a parent's decision for their children to opt out of the tests.
Last year, scores were up 9 points and 4 percent in math, 14 points and 2 percent in English language arts at the school, which was also the biggest increase in the entire city.
But parents say impressive test scores have very little to do with how smart their children are.
"As a parent, I expressed last week at City Hall that I felt bad watching my son suffer, not knowing that I could opt him out," one parent says.
Standardized testing begins this week.
