Following a number of protests and millions of dollars, the maternity ward at North Central Bronx Hospital is just days away from reopening.
Elected officials, hospital staff and community members all joined together to fight for the facility's reopening. They say it took nearly $2 million and a year of negotiations after it was shut down last August because it was understaffed.
The renovated facility will now have 10 new doctors, a chairperson, 30 staff members and new equipment. The facility will also be complete with a brand new unit for mothers recovering from cesarean section surgeries.
The labor unit is expected to be open to the public next week after it gets final approval from the state Department of Health.
