Water main bursts in Melrose at Brook Avenue, East 157th Street

A water main break in Melrose flooded the streets near Brook Avenue and East 157th Street Monday.
The city Department of Environmental Protection responded to determine the source of the leak.
More water also burst through the street a few blocks away.
Residents of the area say they've had water leaks in their basements in recent weeks. Another neighbor says there was a smaller leak about a week ago in the same area. Despite the burst pipe, she says she's still getting water service at home. Other neighbors were not so lucky and did lose their water service.
Crews got the leak under control by the early evening, but officials say an accident in the area slowed their response. They said they expected full repairs to take about six hours.
