Some residents say they are outraged over a project to transform the lower Grand Concourse into affordable housing.
Officials say the $200 million project will provide much-needed upgrades to the area.
Those opposing the plan were able to voice their concerns at a meeting Tuesday night at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
Residents say they're worried about overdevelopment, a lack of nearby schools and the reduction of park space. A city spokesperson says the project will provide about 1,000 new housing units, new infrastructure like sewers, lights, sidewalks, and a new park.
Officials say the affordable housing units will likely be available to those in the low-income brackets and people like college students looking to return to the community.
The project is planned to be built near the Harlem River, just west of the Major Deegan Expressway.
City officials say the meeting Tuesday night went well, and that they will take the feedback gathered and possibly implement some ideas in the project moving forward.
