12-year-old shot on Bronx playground
A shooting at a Thieriot Avenue playground left a 12-year-old boy wounded over the weekend, police say.
Isaiah Osborne was playing basketball at Story Playground around 5 p.m. when a bullet tore into his left hip, according to authorities. He was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.
Police say they do not think he was the intended target.
Tricia Croal, the boy's mother, says she had urged her son not to go to the park, but he wanted to play with friends for 45 minutes after school.
Croal, a mother of eight, says she no longer feels safe in the neighborhood and fears for her family.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
Another shooting over the weekend involved a 20-year-old man who police say is friends with Croal's 12-year-old son. Neighbors are demanding security cameras in the area to halt the violence.
