Haitian group wants Medgar Evers College to uninvite Hillary Clinton to commencement ceremony
A group of Haitians in Brooklyn is upset that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will give the commencement speech at Medgar Evers College in June.
They claim her family's Clinton Foundation squandered earthquake relief money in Haiti after a devastating natural disaster in 2010.
The group Committee to Mobilize Against Dictatorship in Haiti, also known as Komokoda, is accusing the foundation of misusing $6 billion of relief funds. The group also makes the claim that Clinton used derogatory remarks against black youth. The foundation disputes those claims.
But Komokoda wants the college to rescind its invitation. It's also asking for supporters to contact the school president and demand the same thing.
In response to the accusations, the foundation says Clinton worked tirelessly to provide as much funding as possible to help earthquake victims in Haiti.
"This money, which the foundation raised in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, has been accounted for and funds were disbursed to leading nonprofit organizations," a spokesperson said.
