Kerry Washington honored at Bronx Children's Museum Gala
Actress Kerry Washington was honored Tuesday night at the first-ever Bronx Children's Museum Gala at Tribeca Rooftop.
Washington's mother, who serves on the museum's board, presented her daughter, a Bronx native, with an award during the ceremony. Hip-hop artist Swizz Beatz provided the sounds for the evening and a comedian made a special guest appearance.
Aside from Washington, the museum honored playwright Richard Abrons and business leader Rafael Collado.
The Bronx Children's Museum has always operated with and without walls, using a bus at times to bring outreach programs to Bronx youth. The museum will finally have a home in 2018 near Yankee Stadium.
Washington plays Olivia Pope in the hit ABC drama "Scandal." The gala featured a live auction that includes a visit to the set of the show in Los Angeles.
