Police: Suspect in attack of 83-year-old Bronx man found dead

The family of an 83-year-old Bronx man brutally punched in the face during an unprovoked attack is speaking out about the man’s condition, as police have announced that the suspect in the attack is dead.
Police say the victim was walking along the street close to where he lives when the suspect punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground and causing him to lose consciousness.
The incident happened Monday at the intersection of Fox Street and Westchester Avenue around 11 a.m.
Family members of 83-year-old Valentine Santos Hernandez say the father of four and grandfather of five suffered cuts and fractures to his nose and face and was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Miguel Santos, the victim’s son, spoke exclusively to News 12 saying his father's vital signs are improving, but he remains unconscious and non-responsive.
Police say the suspect was found dead inside of his Bronx apartment shortly after the incident and believe he may have taken his own life.
Police are investigating what the motive for the assault is.
