THE BRONX -

Next week marks the start of National Prevention Week, but one Bronx school started the conversation early on Friday.

M.S. 101 is taking a more hands-on approach and is speaking openly about substance abuse and its effects.

Students put their thoughts about drug use on paper and tied them to a park fence.

School officials say they need to empower children and give them a forum to talk about drugs in a meaningful way.

In the upcoming week, students will be learning each day about what substances they should stay away from.
