Rafael Ramos Foundation set for largest fundraiser yet

The charity organization founded in memory of an NYPD member who was killed in the line of duty will host a charity fundraiser this week.
The Detective Rafael Ramos Foundation expects Thursday's fundraiser to be one of its largest events to date.
Ramos and his partner were gunned down in their car just days before Christmas in 2014.
"The last three years have been a roller coaster ride for us," says his wife, Maritza Ramos.
She says she was waiting for her husband to get off work that day so they could go Christmas shopping for their two sons. She recalls her last conversation with him.
"I told him I love him, but I think if you know that's the last moment that you have to speak to someone, you would tell them so much more," she says. "The conversations all day were about making sure the boys got everything they needed."
At 2:42 p.m., less than an hour before he would have gotten off work, a gunman ambushed Ramos and his partner, Wenjian Liu, killing them both.
In an effort to keep her husband's memory alive, Maritza Ramos created the foundation on the one-year anniversary of her husband's death. The organization has been raising money to buy school supplies for children in need.
'He had such a loving heart, such a caring heart for people, and this is one of the reasons he became a police officer," Ramos says of her husband. "I think he'd be very proud, very proud of what we're doing."
