Restored statue of spiritual leader unveiled in Downtown Brooklyn

Brooklyn residents came together Thursday for the unveiling of a restored statue of an important figure to many in the community.
The bronze statue of Henry Ward Beecher was originally dedicated in 1891.
Beecher was an inspirational spiritual leader, outspoken commentator and someone who influenced public opinion during slavery and women’s suffrage.
The restoration was performed by Wilson Conservation under the oversight of the New York City Parks Department, the Municipal Art Society and the Conservation Advisory Group of the New York City Public Design Commission.
Funds for the restoration came from a grant by the Paul and Klara Porzelt Foundation via the Adopt-A-Monument program.
