Temperatures in the Bronx spike into the 90s

News 12 meteorologists say temperatures in the Bronx spiked into the 90s Thursday, but it felt closer to 100 degrees with extra humidity.
An air quality alert and a heat advisory were issued through the evening.
The city's Department of Environmental Conservation is recommending that residents limit the use of electrical appliances like air conditioners and fans, while limiting air conditioning units to 78 degrees.
They also suggest closing window blinds and shades to keep out sunlight and setting refrigerators and freezers to more efficient temperatures.
One local family helped Bronx residents stay cool by selling cold drinks along Bruckner Boulevard Thursday.  The family business set up a tent right on the intersection of Bruckner and White Plains Road. They sell water, lemonade and other cool drinks to drivers and pedestrians on hot summer days. They say they use about 40 gallons of liquid a day while their stand is open.
