West Farms tenant calls apartment complex unlivable

A West Farms tenant has reached out to News 12 The Bronx for assistance with addressing what she says are unlivable conditions at her apartment complex.
While the tenant says she pays her rent on time every month for her apartment at 995 W. 173rd St., she describes the complex as “the building from hell.”
The tenant, who prefers to remain unidentified, says she has been living there for eight months and has continued to face multiple issues, including rats.
“There’s not one day that I don't catch a mouse in my apartment,” she says. “I just bought new things, and I have rodents running around in my apartment."
In addition to rats, the tenant says the garbage is not removed regularly and piles up. She went on to say that the smell from the garbage travels through the building.
News 12 has also obtained surveillance video of someone breaking into tenants’ mailboxes.
“I’m getting robbed in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon,” the tenant says. “Someone is robbing my mailbox."
Meanwhile, the building’s owner said in a statement, "We have been cooperating with authorities, and the mailboxes will be fixed today.”
The New York City Housing Preservation and Development says it attempted an inspection of the building Thursday but was not granted access to the building. News 12 is told it will move forward by attempting to contact the tenants to schedule inspections.
