All-girls PAL basketball camp held in Longwood

THE BRONX -

Young girls at the Police Athletic League's Basketball Camp learned from the pros Tuesday about how to play basketball.

The campers - ranging from 9 to 14 years old - learned and perfected their game in Longwood.

"This is huge because this is the first time ever that we're having an all-girls basketball camp to showcase the skills of the girls," says PAL's Danielle Madden-Buck.

Among those teaching at the camp was former L.A. Lakers point guard and Fordham University alum William "Smush" Parker.

"I've been working heavily with the PAL to kind of just be a part of the community and the basketball world and give back," he says.

More than 120 girls from across the five boroughs learned the skills of dribbling, shooting and more.

"It's an opportunity for us girls that want to play basketball because everything else is always about boys, and this is a good chance for us to do things that boys can do," says Katie Bonilla, of Queens.
