Community members oppose proposed medical facility

Members of the Pelham Bay community were able to voice their opinions Tuesday about the proposed development of a 10-story medical facility in their neighborhood.
The proposed structure would be built on Westchester Avenue. Community board leaders say the development is in its early stages. They say the proposal is under review and that the developer filed a zoning determination with the city Buildings Department to make sure it meets current zoning standards in the Pelham Bay neighborhood.
If it doesn't meet those standards, developers can file an appeal. If the zoning is approved, the community has 45 days to submit a response.
Most community members say they are against the development, with many citing complaints about parking and traffic in the area.
Some attendees at the meeting say they expect neighboring communities to join in their fight against overdevelopment.
