THE BRONX -

A dreadlocked man punched a woman in the face and tried to rape her at Bathgate Avenue and East 173rd Street, police say.

The 36-year-old victim told police the man assaulted her from behind while she was entering her car. 

Surveillance video shows the suspect fleeing down the street in a gray and white T-shirt with dark pants and shoes. Police say they think he is about 25 years old and 5 feet 6 inches tall. He looks to weigh about 130 pounds and has long dreadlocks.

Police say the woman fought back fiercely.

She suffered bruising on her face, but she was not seriously hurt and refused medical attention, police say.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact police.
