Girl burned by scalding water celebrates after release from hospital

A young Bronx girl who spent over 10 days in Harlem Hospital after having scalding water poured on her face celebrated her recovery Thursday with the community.
Jamoneisha Merritt, 11, suffered second- and third-degree burns after another girl poured boiling water over her at a slumber party earlier this month.
A daylong block party on Findlay Avenue Thursday properly welcomed Merritt back home with food, music and plenty of activities for kids.
Merritt shied away from cameras but did mention she was doing well. One of her attorneys says she still has a long recovery ahead.
Attorneys are connecting the act to the "hot water challenge" seen online and say they are exploring their legal options.
