NYC search and rescue team continues work in flooded Texas

Posted: Updated:
SWEENY, T.X -

The New York City Urban Search and Rescue Task Force continued fanning out in neighborhoods in Texas Thursday in the wake of Hurricane Harvey's unprecedented destruction.

The group is looking for residents who may still be stranded in the homes.

News 12 reporter Andrew Ehinger was in Sweeny, Texas with the group – about 70 miles north of Houston. The task force says water levels in flooded area are expected to rise another 3 feet.

On their search, the task force is collecting data via GPS on who wanted to shelter in place and who wished to leave their homes. They have no authority to force people to leave, but recommend residents seek shelter.

On Wednesday, the group of FDNY members saved a man who was stuck in floodwaters on top of a tractor.
