Bronx teen makes name for himself in fashion industry
A teen from the Bronx is making a name for himself in the fashion industry.
Mark Merphy, a recent Truman High School graduate, is selling his new line of 40-XL clothes across the country.
"40XL – it’s a bible verse, like 40 days and 40 nights, and XL is just the roman numeral for 40,” he says
Merphy is now a freshman at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, and a full-time clothing designer.
He says it was his late grandfather's inspiration that continues to push him forward.
"When I was younger, he always told me I had an act for creation and stuff and I always like dressing in fashion and I always thought this could be my outlet to express my views,” he says.
Those views are illustrated in his hats, shirts and soon to be sweat suit line. Merphy says he hopes his customers wear his clothes with pride and find their originality to shine through.
