Police officers help with hurricane relief efforts

NYPD officers from the 40th Precinct are helping to provide relief for victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Officers and detectives carried boxes of clothing, food, diapers, medical supplies, walkers, crutches and wheelchairs for the elderly or those injured during the storms. They have been collecting supplies since Harvey hit Texas. Now that Irma has also hit, organizers say the supplies will be split up and shipped to Florida, too.

To get the supplies, neighborhood coordination officers handed out flyers to residents, and officers brought their own donations to work.

In total, more than 30 boxes are heading to hurricane survivors.
