Thousands ride through Bronx in annual event

Over 7,000 bicyclists came to ride at the 23rd annual Tour de Bronx Sunday.
The 40-mile route passed by scenic waterfronts and landmarks like Fort Schuyler on the Throngs Neck Peninsula. A 25-mile route was also offered for those who wanted a shorter ride.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says the Tour de Bronx is a major step toward the borough’s campaign for a healthier city.
The cycling event is also used to show people alternative modes of transportation and the borough itself.
A tent was also set up on route to give people free bicycle helmets and to educate the community on the importance of community safety.
