Dept. of Homeless Services ousts BEDCO as operator of shelters

The Department of Homeless Services announced a change at the shelter where two children were killed by a blast of steam last year.
Officials say Bushwick Economic Development Corp., the company that ran the site on Hunts Point Avenue, is no longer being used by the city as a provider for the homeless.
"As promised, BEDCO has been completely phased out as a provider for cluster sites and commercial hotel facilities," the Department of Homeless Service told News 12 in a statement. "Additionally, of the six shelters they operated at the start of this year, one has already been closed."
Last December, a radiator exploded at the Hunts Point Avenue building, killing two sisters, ages one and two years old.
