$44M Westchester Ave. Bridge facelift underway

Oversized vehicles slam into the Westchester Avenue Bridge more than almost every other bridge in the city, so officials are lifting it out of harm's way.
The 75-year-old span is one of the three most-struck by vehicles driving underneath it in New York, officials say. So the city has begun work to lift it to a new clearance of 12 feet, 8 inches.
Work on the $44 million facelift has already started, but the Department of Transportation says it won't wrap up until 2021.
